Shades of Gray - Classes

Shades of Gray offers watercolour, drawing and sketching courses, for small groups of adults. All abilities are welcome including beginners. Individual attention is guaranteed. These courses are held in two hour sessions and continue throughout the year.

Watercolour and Drawing Technique

Can you see?

Learning to "see" as an artist and to encourage progression at the student's own pace, is the objective of this course. A wide variety of inspiring and challenging still life subjects are used. Topics such as negative space, composition, light, colour, perspective, directional line, work from a live model (clothes on) and much more are considered.

Drawing Animals
Animals, Birds, Fish and Insects

Using objects from nature, e.g leaves, flowers, skulls, rocks, shells, bark etc., we work from photographs and pictures from magazines and books to render animals. Ann Gray will teach how to "put together" your own image from several pieces of visual reference. A strong emphasis is put on anatomy and students are encouraged to bring in their own reference and "found objects" to examine and use in class. 6 weeks (12 hours) - £45.

Landscape Painting Watercolour

Friday Mornings, 10am-12pm at the Charmouth Community Hall, Charmouth, Dorset.

Friday Afternoons, 2.30pm-4.30pm at the Axmouth Village Hall, Axmouth, Dorset.

A Lighter Shade of Gray

Informal sketching walks around the local area in Lyme Regis, with individual tuition. We sketch what we see, quick gesture sketches in pencil or watercolour. We will meet at the clock tower, at Cobb Gate Car Park. Call for information.

Private Lessons

Ann Gray will tutor you in your own home, in the local area of West Dorset/East Devon. Just give a ring and set up a convenient time. £18 per hour.
